With so many variations of Tablets coming to the market it can make it difficult deciding what tablet pc to actually go with.

For the last few years Naunce Systems has been using the HP tc4400. Although there are many varying features amoung the 4400 series it seems to have stood the test of time.  All of our tablets have a minimum processing speed of 1.83GHz and 1GB ram.  The one difference that these HP tc4400 tablets don’t have is an internal disc drive. A standard stand alone one is an option, just leave it the office for backup.

There are other brands of HP tablets on the Market such as the Toshiba. The Toshiba Portege M400 is comparible to the HP tc4400 with an Intel Core 2 Duo and 2GHz and 1GB memory and an added feature of the DVD Disc drive.  There are many other features that come standard but the main focus in buying a new Tablet PC  is the processing spreed. Anything lower than at least 1.83GHz the tabelt is going to seem slow.

If you are planning to use Real Estate Dashboard for all you document signing security needs the minimum processing speed is 1.5GHz. Something to keep in mind when shopping around.

Pricing on Tablet PC’s can range anywhere from $1299.00 and up to $3000.00 depending on all the added features that have been upgraded to a particular model.

Where to buy a tablet pc. Over the past few years Tablets have only been available online and are slowly making their way into retail stores such are Best Buy, but the selection is minimal as the general public still don’t have a use for them.  When searching online the best place to start is directly on the manufactures website, such as www.hp.ca they will list the various models and designs and most of the time they will either sell it direct or offer a list of authorized resellers of the product.

 All in all the tablet pc that you go with needs to fit your needs, think about what you are going to be using it for and compare that with what the manufactures are offering.

If you still have questions on e-signature you may consider the following as to why they are legal here in Canada!  E-Signatures are legal, signatures on faxes are legal, the concerns that the lawyers have are 3 fold…

1) being able to ensure that the person signing is the one entitled to sign

2) that the person signing is actually the person, it’s not a fraudulent (identity theft) signature

3) the e-signature is secure and hasn’t been tampered with, ie: using Windows Journal to sign documents, in that, the signature can be copied and pasted to any other documents. The Product being referred to in this article is Dashboard and the above concerns have been addressed in Canada and the United States. The signatures on Dashboard are secure and authenticable. You can also refer to the “Electronic Transactions Act” for your Province.

Yes, it’s legal! In the June issue of REM, Don Procter writes:

At REM’s online forum one writer said he was told by a lawyer that e-signatures — a digital signature made with a computer stylus on a tablet PC – are not legal. That’s not so, says Bob Aaron, lawyer of Toronto-based law firm Aaron & Aaron. Under the Electronic Commerce Act, 2000, c. 17, s. 31 (1).4, e-signatures get the green light.
A signature is valid if it is created with a pen and scanned electronically, points out Aaron. But if the signature is simply typewritten, stating the person’s name and that he or she signed it electronically, than it is not legal.
Aaron says an e-signature is analogous to a signature on a facsimile, which is simply an electronic photograph of a signature. “The tablet PC is the same thing. It converts a signature made with a pen into an electronic format made for transmission. Twenty-five years ago a court said that a fax machine was okay (to use).”
